What Tunneling mode is and when to use it
Last updated: 2026-06-28
Tunneling mode is a playback option designed mainly for TVs. It lets the device hardware process the video more directly.
What it’s for
- Reduces CPU usage on the device during playback.
- Improves smoothness on some Android TV and Fire TV devices.
- Helps avoid stutter or overheating on lower-powered hardware.
How to turn it on
- Open Settings and go to the Playback section.
- Turn Tunneling mode on or off.
Tips
- Not every TV supports it the same way: if a channel looks bad after enabling it, turn it off and try again.
- On phones you usually won’t notice a difference; it’s more useful on TVs.
